New historical fiction depicts Civil War adventures with Terry's Texas Rangers

No Good Like It Is by McKendree R. Long III follows two comrades in combat BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. - June 2, 2010 - No Good Like It Is by McKendree R. Long III seeks to re-enact the turbulent times of the Civil War through the adventures of two companions, Confederate cavalry Capt. Dobey Walls and Sgt. Maj. Jimmy Melton.

The historical novel, set in 1858, is divided into two books, with "Book One" describing the tales of these two Texans formerly in the U.S. Army as they join the 8th Texas Cavalry, better known as Terry's Texas Rangers, at the start of the Civil War. With the Rangers, Dobey and Jimmy take part in the first and final charges of the Army of Tennessee and are integral in stopping the Fort Pillow Massacre.

"Book Two" of No Good Like It Is follows the wounded and weary soldiers after the war, as they travel West to search for Dobey's missing family. Along the way, the two encounter a cast of gritty characters and rescue the daughter of a quadroon by murdering those who nearly raped her. As Dobey and Jimmy fast-approach the last stop on their trip, the trading post owned by Dobey's mother, they must fend off detectives, a renegade lawman and a tribe of Comanches, who attack the trading post.
