Cold Shadows

Image
Ok, so fans of a good mystery thriller should check out this book. I have never heard of Jeff Critser. I still would not have, if it was not for the fact that I had a chance to review this book. This would have been sad as again I state that this is a book that fans like me who enjoy mystery thrillers will like. This book I want to say is simple but also complex at the same time. If this makes sense? Ok, so what I mean by this is that it is simple in that there are no flashy twists but complex in the layers of intrigue, mystery, and the characters that Mr. Critser brings to this book. His former background really helps lend an upper hand to him in his knowledge of technology.

Outlaw: Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and the Renegades of Nashville

Image
Book Summary   Waylon Jennings. Willie Nelson. Kris Kristofferson. Three renegade musicians. Three unexpected stars. Three men who changed Nashville and country music forever. By the late 1960s, Nashville, Tennessee, was firmly established as the center of the booming country music industry and home to what was known as the Nashville Sound, characterized by slick production and adherence to an increasingly overused formula. But the city was changing. Young people from all over the country were streaming into the bohemian West End and colliding with three trailblazing artists who would soon rock the foundations of Nashville's music business. Surrounded by the street vibes of the West End's burgeoning underground scene and the outlaw protest tradition of Nashville's unlikely civil rights leaders and antiwar protestors, Waylon, Willie, and Kris began resisting the unspoken rules of Nashville's music-making machine and instead forged their own creative paths. The Eternal Nazi: From Mauthausen to Cairo, the Relentless Pursuit of SS Doctor Aribert Heim

Image
Ok, not that I am rooting for violence but I did think that this book would go into details more about Dr. Heim's procedures and his crimes. I thought that this book would focus on Dr. Heim's time in the concentration camp. Instead if focused more on the time span from when Dr. Heim escaped the camp and Police investigator Alfred Aedtner's hunt to find him. The investigation was intriguing. It was amazing how Dr. Heim could be easily missed by the authorities. It is not like he really was hiding out that well. Well not in my opinion. He was able to do so because of all of the miscommunication or sloppy investigating. If it was not for people like Alfred not willing to give up then criminals would be able to get away with a lot more back in this time period. This book did more along quickly as it spanned time periods. A interesting look into history and events that should not be forgotten for the people who lived it.

The Harm in Asking

Image
I wanted to read this book because it sounded like a good time with tons of laughs. I mean if you saw this book cover you would expect nothing less. However I was sadden by this book. I hardly laughed. Some of the situations that the author may have thought was funny and the reader like me was supposed to laugh at was more awkward like a blind date, creepy like a stalker, or just plain sad. There were times where I even skipped chapters because I thought the subject title would be more interesting and funnier. Not so much. While I do appreciate the author sharing a unscripted look into her life growing up, I wished it was happier and not so much time spent in detail about everything. For example do I really need to read about several pages worth of how Sara went to the bathroom and her time playing with dolls that she thought up while in the bathroom. Although, the conversations that Sara had with the dolls were funny.

Redeployment

Image
Book Summary Phil Klay's Redeployment takes readers to the frontlines of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, asking us to understand what happened there, and what happened to the soldiers who returned.  Interwoven with themes of brutality and faith, guilt and fear, helplessness and survival, the characters in these stories struggle to make meaning out of chaos. In "Redeployment", a soldier who has had to shoot dogs because they were eating human corpses must learn what it is like to return to domestic life in suburbia, surrounded by people "who have no idea where Fallujah is, where three members of your platoon died."  In "After Action Report", a Lance Corporal seeks expiation for a killing he didn't commit, in order that his best friend will be unburdened.  A Morturary Affairs Marine tells about his experiences collecting remains—of U.S. and Iraqi soldiers both.  A chaplain sees his understanding of Christianity, and his ability to provide

Providence is a instant winner! One of the best books of 2014.

Becky just wanted a few moments to herself to read and hide from her father. She did not mean to burn down the family barn. Becky packs her bags and leaves. She hops a train and finds a baby girl left in a duffel bag. Becky knows how to care for a baby thanks to her siblings. The train stops at Watson's Grove, Georgia. Becky figures this is a good place to stop until it is safe to go back home. Providence is a instant winner! One of the best books of 2014. I would group author, Lisa up there with Jodi Thomas and Robyn Carr. Two of my many authors. Lisa brought she life to the characters in this book. They felt more like family then they did people in a story. Rosie is an angel. I almost cried during a certain part. I don't want to give it away. I absolutely loved Baby Girl aka Georgia. She stole my heart. Then there is Becky, John, and the rest of the people in Watson's Grove. The only bad part about this book is when I finished the last word and was finished wit

Hush Little Baby

Jillian had the perfect life. She had a handsome husband, who was a good father to their two children, Drew and Addie. Only Jillian did not have the perfect life. When the doors closed, Gordon was a monster. He abused Jillian. She and their children lived in fear. She knew it was only a matter of time before Gordon killed her. Thus she had no choice but to run for her life and her children's lives. IF she stops running, Gordon will find them. I absolutely loved this book. Although, it was difficult to read. This is due to the subject matter of abusive. Not just physical but also, emotional, and psychological abusive. No one...man or women or child should have to put with up with abusive. However, I was fighting along side of Jillian the whole time. The emotions and her acts that she displayed in this story really made her seem more like a real person then just a character in a book. I read the reading guide questions in the back of the book and there was one that really m
