A Cowboy's Claim

Image
Everyone knows Victor Vicario—he's the scarred loner who's on his way to the National Finals Rodeo in Vegas. But no one knows about the guilt that drives him. And until he achieves his goal, there's no room in his life for attachments.

So when Vic is given temporary custody of his young nephew, he is torn. He can't turn his back on family, but how can he look after a kid when he's traveling the rodeo circuit? Then he runs into feisty barrel racer Tanya McGee and makes her an offer. She helps him with Alex, and he'll pay her rodeo expenses. The problem is their little "family" starts to feel all too real.

My Review

I am a sucker for a cowboy. Although Victor is charming and great with his nephew, Alex, I was not feeling the spicy chemistry between him and Tanya. For example the first time that they slept together, I had no reacts and just kept reading. Despite me not feeling the sizzle, I did think this was a sweet read. Alex is a cute boy. He warmed…

My Review

So what happens when two best friends break down the barriers and give into temptation...Take Me, Cowboy. Anna and Chase's chemistry was HOT. As soon as Anna made the first move and they shared a kiss, I was feeling the heat. Anna may not have a lot of experience with men or her own body as a woman and I like that Chase realized this and was patient with Anna. Although afte…

Her Again: Becoming Meryl Streep

Image
A portrait of a woman, an era, and a profession: the first thoroughly researched biography of Meryl Streep—the “Iron Lady” of acting, nominated for nineteen Oscars and winner of three—that explores her beginnings as a young woman of the 1970s grappling with love, feminism, and her astonishing talent.

In 1975 Meryl Streep, a promising young graduate of the Yale School of Drama, was finding her place in the New York theater scene. Burning with talent and ambition, she was like dozens of aspiring actors of the time—a twenty-something beauty who rode her bike everywhere, kept a diary, napped before performances, and stayed out late “talking about acting with actors in actors’ bars.” Yet Meryl stood apart from her peers. In her first season in New York, she won attention-getting parts in back-to-back Broadway plays, a Tony Award nomination, and two roles in Shakespeare in the Park productions. Even then, people said, “Her. Again.”

Her Again is an intimate look at the artistic coming-of-age o…

Remember to Forget

Image
In Remember to Forget from Watty Award-winning author Ashley Royer, Levi has refused to speak since the tragic death of his girlfriend, Delia, and can't seem to come out of his depression and hindering self-doubt. Desperate to make some positive change in Levi’s life, his mother sends him to live with his father in Maine. Though the idea of moving from Australia to America seems completely daunting, Levi passively accepts his fate, but once he lands faces personal struggles and self-doubt at the same time he and his dad battle through resentment and misunderstanding. And then, while at therapy, Levi meets Delilah, a girl who eerily reminds him of someone he lost.

My Review

I tried to like this book because most of the other readers who read this book could not stop raving about it. Yet, I found Levi to be very off-putting. I felt more resentment towards everyone and everything then I did depression. Which I guess in a way resentment is a form of depression. Aside from all of this …

A haunting tale of love and longing, fate and free will, and the easily blurred lines between fiction and reality, Glass Shatters explores the risks of trying to reinvent oneself, and the dangers of pushing science to its limits."
My Review

At first this book did not seem to be my cup of tea, yet there were fragments of thins that I read that intrigued me. Just like Charles' memories. Also, Iris and Ava, Charles's neighbors…

Impure Blood

Image
In the heat of a French summer, Captain Paul Darac of the Nice Brigade Criminelle is called to a highly sensitive crime scene. A man has been found murdered in the midst of a Muslim prayer group, but no one saw how it was done. Then the organisers of the Nice leg of the Tour de France receive an unlikely terrorist threat. In what becomes a frantic race against time, Darac must try and unpick a complex knot in which racial hatred, sex and revenge are tightly intertwined.

My Review

This author is new to me. The story started out fine, yet I had trouble engaging myself in the story as it kept progressing. The murder itself was not interest. In fact, I kind of missed it the first time and had to re-read it again. Which again that was the theme for me for most of the first third of the story. I found myself more re-reading or even reading for a third time sections again. Captain Darac was interesting and lent a nice voice to the story. After a while I could not stick with this book anymore. …
