Say Goodbye for Now

On an isolated Texas ranch, Dr. Lucy cares for abandoned animals. The solitude allows her to avoid the people and places that remind her of the past. Not that any of the townsfolk care. In 1959, no one is interested in a woman doctor. Nor are they welcoming Calvin and Justin Bell, a newly arrived African American father and son.

When Pete Solomon, a neglected twelve-year-old boy, and Justin bring a wounded wolf-dog hybrid to Dr. Lucy, the outcasts soon find refuge in one another. Lucy never thought she’d make connections again, never mind fall in love. Pete never imagined he’d find friends as loyal as Justin and the dog. But these four people aren’t allowed to be friends, much less a family, when the whole town turns violently against them.

With heavy hearts, Dr. Lucy and Pete say goodbye to Calvin and Justin. But through the years they keep hope alive…waiting for the world to catch up with them.

My Review

This is the third book I have read from this author. By far, this is the best book I have read from the author. Although, every book that I have read by this author is a good read. Ms. Ryan Hyde brings so much life to her stories and characters. She takes the reading game up a few levels.

Instantly, I connected with everyone in this book from Lucy, Pete, Calvin, Justin and Prince. The way they were all brought together and bonded was great. I actually felt sorry that the rest of the town could not find happiness or friendship like these 5 did. Yes, I count Prince as one of the group. I like how the story progressed in time with everyone growing older and yet still staying in each other's lives. I almost read this book in one sitting. If it was not for the one small factor of sleep, I would have read it all. Yet, when I put the book down I only had a third of the way left which I promptly finished as soon as I could. I look forward to reading the next book by this author. As the title of this book says "I am only saying goodbye for now".
